Living on the Amador Causeway
Where the Panama Canal meets the Pacific
The Amador Causeway is a road of about 6 km that links the mainland to four small islands, Naos, Culebra, Perico and Flamenco, at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. It was built from rock excavated during the canal’s construction, and the surrounding Amador area, once part of the former Canal Zone, has been redeveloped with marinas, restaurants and new residential buildings.
Residents enjoy one of the city’s best walking and cycling paths, views of ships heading into the canal, the Bridge of the Americas and the skyline, and quick access to Casco Viejo, Albrook and, across the canal, Panamá Pacífico.

Buying Tips for Amador
What we check with buyers here before they make an offer.
Check the Rental Rules
Some buildings target short-term rentals and others ban them. Get the rules in writing.
Ask About Maintenance
Sea air is hard on windows, balconies and air conditioning. Check the building’s upkeep and reserve fund.
Review Pre-Construction Terms
Look at the developer’s track record, payment schedule, delivery date and delay terms.
Visit on a Weekend
The causeway is busy with visitors on weekends and holidays. See if the traffic suits you.
Confirm the Parking
Check how many spaces come with the unit and that they are in the title or the sale.
Use an Independent Attorney
Your attorney should verify the title, any concession or land status, liens and building rules before you sign.

Canal Era
Built From the Canal

WWII
Guarding the Canal

Handover
Back to Panama
After control of the area returned to Panama, Amador was redeveloped with marinas, restaurants and public space.
Biomuseo
